Located only one hour north of Edmonton, this ski hill spreads over 140 acres and offers 24 downhill runs, over 20 km of scenic cross country ski trails, snowshoe trails and a tubing hill. For those who crave a challenge, the terrain park has “hits”, “rails”, and “funboxes”.
The ski area was established in 1967 for Canada’s Centennial and has operated ever since. Over the span of the last 50 years, the hill has grown to meet the needs of winter outdoor enthusiasts. Tawatinaw Valley offers runs to suit everyone’s needs, from novice to advanced in both Alpine and Nordic aspects. There are 2 T-bars and a tow rope which provide access to all downhill runs and the terrain park. There is a large chalet with a licensed cafeteria offering homestyle cooking and Pub nights with tubing on Fridays and Saturdays. Ski, snowboard, snowshoe and tube rentals are available. Ski and Snowboard lessons are available for individuals, groups and schools. There are a variety of fun clubs available for kids of all ages.
Nordic skiing can be accessed from the upper parking lot and Snowshoe Trails from the lower parking lot; please ensure that you stop at the Chalet to check in before heading out. Purchase your day lift ticket, season pass, lessons and rentals and complete your waivers right on the website for a seamless and fast start to your day on the hill.
Each season the ski hill hosts the Tawatinaw Valley Loppet prior to the annual Alberta Birkebeiner.

Keeping in mind that we want to ensure the good health and safety of our guests and staff, masks will be mandatory while inside the Chalet, Rental Shop, and on lift lines. Hand sanitizer will be available at all high touch points. Strict cleaning and sanitizing protocols are in place for every aspect of the business, whether it be inside our buildings or with our rental equipment or lifts. Social distancing measures will be in place in the Chalet, Rental Shop and Lift Lines.
We have created a new website with online booking for lift passes, rentals and more. This will make the guest experience easy and efficient, allowing them the most time out on the hill, without long lineups in the Chalet or Rental Shop. Our Chalet's cafe will be open and serving all our regular food and drink items, provided to guests in "to go" containers so that they can choose to sit at available tables or enjoy their meal on our deck, tents, by the fire or in their vehicle. Pub nights have limited seating and tables must be booked in advance.
